Classic Spas And Hot Tubs Diabetes 
As reported in the September 16, 1999 issue of the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine: According to the American Diabetes Association, over 15.7 million Americans are diabetics. Tight control of blood glucose(sugar) levels is the only defense against the many problems and side affects that come from poorly managed diabetes. Now, recent findings reported in the New England Journal of Medicine give new hope to the millions who suffer from diabetes, with the discovery of a new tool for use in their treatment -- a ThermoSpas hot tub! An independent study led by researcher Dr. Philip L. Hooper at the McKee Medical Center in loveland, Colorado sought to determine if bathing in a hot tub simulates the beneficial effects of exercise. The answer is a resounding YES! The patients soaked in a hot tub for 30 minutes a day, six days a week, for 3 weeks and reduced their blood sugar levels by an average of 13 percent! One subject even had to reduce the amount of insulin he was taking by 18 percent in order to avoid having low blood sugar reactions. Another added bonus of hot tub use was discovered in this ground-breaking study. In just 3 weeks, the patients lost an average of 3-1/2 pounds without instituting any new diet or exercise programs. In reference to these findings, Dr. Hooper states that hot tubs are especially helpful for patients who are unable to exercise, and recommends that hot tub treatments should be included as regular therapy for patients with diabetes. It is highly recommended for those with diabetes to consult with their physician prior to beginning hot tub treatments. What do we at Classic Spas and Hot Tubs have to say about all this? "Thanks, Dr. Hooper!" Dear Classic, Since having our five person, Concord Spa, built by Thermo Spas, installed in January of this year we have used it continuously. We are first time Spa buyers in Southeastern Ohio. Sometimes our weather is not very friendly and you can always count on it changing very quickly. It took some bravery on our part to start using the Spa but, after just the second evening of total relaxation, we were hooked. We were very concerned about the energy operating cost of our spa, having never been associated with this type of product before. After having the spa for nearly three months, and through the coldest part of our year, we have enjoyed 101 deg water temperature and have barely noticed any increase in our electric bill. Our unit is certainly energy efficient. Ken is a person with diabetes and suffers from severe leg pain and neuropathy. We wandered if a spa would be of any benefit for helping ease his symptoms. Doctors would not recommend or discount the possible benefit of a spa. Ken will admit that all problems associated with his condition may not have gone away but the relaxation and therapy from the many jets in the thermospa help ease the discomfort of his condition. Buying the spa from Classic was very easy. We had made our possible selection from viewing the videotape and when the salesman arrived(a snowy day in early January) we were able to finalize our selection and made the purchase that same visit. We feel there should have been more effort into explaining the full extent of the routine maintenance, chemical and filter costs. Proper care is very similar to a large pool. Installation of the spa was as easy and went as smoothly or even better than expected. Two gentlemen arrived within the specified time and worked vigorously in the 19 deg weather with 6in. of snow on the ground. We literally had to shovel a spot on our deck to get the spa into position. They were very courteous and extremely knowledgeable about their work. With both of us working, it is very comforting to come home and enjoy our spa. The therapy and relaxation have been a great reward for the both of us.
